Today is election day in Akulliq. Voters in Kugaaruk and Repulse Bay go to the polls
to elect a Member to represent them in the Nunavut Legislature.
Voters in Kugaaruk will cast their ballots from 8am to 6pm (Mountain Time), while
those in Repulse Bay will vote from 9am to 7pm (Central Time).
There are four candidates: Ovide Alakannuark and John Ningark of Kugaaruk and Helena Malliki
and Steve Mapsalak of Repulse Bay.
The by-election was called when a judicial recount of the December 15 vote resulted
in a tie between the top two candidates, Steve Mapsalak and John Ningark.
Early voting included 4 special ballots, 5 mobile poll votes and 17 advance or office
of the returning officer votes. In the December there were 29 early voters.
Results will be available late this evening on the Elections Nunavut website
