A complaint has been made to the Clyde River RCMP that Sandy Kautuq is not eligible to be a candidate as he did not have leave approval from work prior to submitting his declaration of candidacy as required by both the Public Service Act and the Nunavut Elections Act.Elections Nunavut has received the results of the investigation of the RCMP confirming that he was ineligible to be a candidate. The Chief Electoral Officer made a final decision today confirming her earlier temporary order that he be removed as a candidate.
There are now three candidates for the Uqqummiut by-election. James Arreak and Niore Iqalukjuak of Clyde River and Pauloosie Keyootak of Qikiqtarjuaq.
