Taloyoak Liquor Plebiscite


RANKIN INLET, Nunavut  - (October 6, 2014)  –.

Voters in Taloyoak today rejected the idea of creating an Alcohol Education Committee in their community,
instead keeping an unrestricted system whereby only the general liquor laws of Nunavut apply.

Of the 244 valid votes cast, 104 (43%) were in favour of establishing an AEC while 140 (57%) were opposed.

Two ballots were rejected.

There are currently 400 voters on the Taloyoak voters list.

For change to occur over 60% of the accepted ballots cast must be in favour of the question on the ballot.
