RANKIN INLET, Nunavut - The Chief Electoral Officer today issued a writ for a by-election to be held in the constituency of Nattilik on April 26. Nattilik is comprised of the communities of Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak.
Qualified voters who would like to be candidates can get declarations of candidacy from the Returning Officer Teddy Carter in Gjoa Haven, from the Assistant Returning Officer Bob Lyall in Taloyoak and from the Elections Nunavut website – www.elections.nu.ca. Completed declarations must be submitted to the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer by 2pm Mountain Time March 26.
At a by-election a person must be a resident in the constituency on the day of the writ, March 22, as well as meet the usual requirements, to be a voter or candidate. Candidates and financial agents who did not submit a campaign financial return by the 60-day post-election deadline at a Nunavut election within the last five years are disqualified from becoming a candidate at this by-election.
Elections Nunavut will be sending each registered voter a Voter Information Card in the mail. Voter Information Cards tell voters where and when they can vote. If the mailing label has incorrect information about a voter’s name or address, the voter should contact his Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer to have it corrected.
