Liquor Plebiscites-Taloyoak

TALOYOAK, Nunavut 

An Alcohol Education Committee will not be formed in Taloyoak as a result of today’s liquor plebiscite. 

Only 28% (114) of the 405 eligible voters in Taloyoak came out to cast their ballots.

Voters were asked if they favoured the establishment of an Alcohol Education Committee.

54 (48.2%) said ‘Yes’ and 58 (51.8%) said ‘No’. There were 2 rejected ballots. 

For change to occur in a community’s liquor status at least 60% of the valid votes cast must be in favour of the question.

There are no liquor restrictions currently in place specific to Taloyoak.
