“Are you in favour of replacing the current unrestricted system in the Hamlet of Baker Lake and surrounding area to establish an Alcohol Education Committee?

The AEC is responsible for promoting alcohol awareness and education, as well as regulating the purchase, sale and import of alcohol in the community.”

There will be an advance vote on April 19 at the Jessie Oonark Centre from 12:00pm to 7:00pm.

Plebiscite day will be April 26 at the Community Hall from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

Explanation of the Question

If 60% or more of the votes cast are "Yes":

  1. The current unrestricted system of liquor in the Hamlet of Baker Lake and the surrounding area will be abolished.
  2. A committee system will be established in the Hamlet of Baker Lake and the surrounding area, in which a locally elected Alcohol Education Committee is responsible for promoting alcohol awareness and education, as well as regulating the purchase, sale and import of alcohol in the community.
